Knit, Finish and Admire Your First, Favorite Sweater
Wearing a sweater that you've knit yourself is a wonder that every fiber-lover should experience! Join Amy Ross for her online class, My First Sweater, and she'll be with you every step of the way to help you confidently knit the first of many handmade garments.

Work along with Amy in class, and you'll learn all of the skills needed to create a gorgeous hand-knit sweater. She'll show you how to use the pattern to create a classic raglan pullover or any of three variations on a cute cardigan. If you can knit and purl, you'll breeze through your first sweater during this class.

Follow any pattern
After you've explored the pattern and gone over some tips for choosing a size, you'll be ready to cast on! Whether you're knitting the pullover or a cardigan, all of your sweater's pieces will take a similar form: begin with rows of ribbing, work some stockinette stitch, shape the raglan armhole and bind off.

You'll start with the sweater back, which is the same for whichever design you choose. With your sweater back taking shape, you'll have your first look at how to work the raglan armhole shaping while adding decorative eyelet details.

You'll move on to a step-by-step lesson on making your sleeves. Like the sweater back, the sleeves start with ribbing and end with raglan decreasing. In between, you'll learn the knit front and back increase in order to shape the sleeves. If you're interested in a variation to the full-length sleeve, instructions for working 3/4 sleeves are also included!

Learn simple shaping
Next up: the front of your sweater. If you've decided to make a pullover, you'll work the front exactly as you did the back. If you decided to make a cardigan, you'll now be guided through how to create the left and right fronts. In addition to the ribbing and shaping you've worked through on the other pieces, Amy will help you do a bit of neck shaping to allow space for the neckband that you'll add later in class.
In your final lesson, Amy will show you how to seam all of the sweater parts together easily and beautifully. You'll then cover how to pick-up and knit a neckband. And for those of you who decide to make a cardigan, you'll use this same technique to add your button and buttonhole bands. To finish your sweater off, we'll weave in ends and sew on buttons. Sign up for My First Sweater, and you'll even learn to insulate your neck from a chilly breeze by adding a knit collar to your sweater!

Meet Amy
At eight years old, Amy learned to knit a pair of slippers at a local library's knitting group. Fifteen years later, she began her second project and she's been knitting ever since. In addition to sharing the tradition and process of knitting through teaching, Amy has put her knitting skills to work on projects and patterns for knitwear production, editorials, television and film.

Join Amy in My First Sweater for only $19.99 (that's 33% off!), and slip into the comforting satisfaction of your own classic, handknit garment. You can even get all the yarn you need to complete your sweater with the optional My First Sweater Kit of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Yarn!
