Join Nancy and her son Morgan as they bring the vibrant, magical world of silk painting to you!
Silk painting is a Chinese technique that has been practiced for
thousands of years. It is an easy medium to learn, and, even better, you
will achieve wonderful results the very first time you do it!
In this class, you will not only learn the basics, but you will
also build a wonderful foundation for creating future pieces with more
complex techniques. There are three parts to this class:
1. Introduction to Materials - In this video,
Nancy provides a thorough review of the materials you'll use to create
your silk painting and shares where to purchase them.
2. Painting a Pear: A Demonstration - You will
watch a video of Nancy painting a pear from beginning to end while she
shares her thought process and many tips throughout. By the end, you
will be familiar with the process and ready to begin your painting.
3. Step-by-Step Narration of the Process
- In this part, Nancy will guide you carefully through each step of the
process including how to:
- prepare your silk for painting
- transfer your drawing to silk
- apply Gutta to save a form and stop the dye from spreading
- paint a loose painterly background using primary colors
- add texture to your painting
- paint the object with light and dark values and shadow
Try your hand at silk painting! The colors are vibrant, the process
is great fun, and by following Nancy's step-by-step instructions, you
will create a painting to be proud of - and will want to do many more!
