Live. Love. Lace.
When
we pour our hearts into creating a handmade heirloom, love is secure in
every stitch! Join me, Laura Nelkin, for my new, online Craftsy class, Lace from the Inside Out: Advancing Lace Techniques,
and relax while we create a stunning, square heirloom lace shawl or a
baby blanket that will be treasured for generations to come.
At
the beginning of class, you'll learn how to work a circular cast-on
using double-pointed needles or the magic loop technique. Then, you'll
knit along with me as we work from the inside out to bring your heirloom
to life. You'll learn an eclectic array of lace stitches and overcome
any fear you may have of working with nupps or charts!
Throughout
class, I'll provide you with lots of valuable information, like how to
add beads to your work, use lifelines, and circle back to correct any
mistakes, including missed increases and decreases. It's up to you
whether you want to make a slightly smaller project, a beautiful baby
blanket, or continue on to create a sophisticated shawl, which is a bit
larger. On both of these projects, I'll show you how to work an elegant edging all the way around, which will incorporate your live stitches as you bind them off.
Finally,
we'll reach that magic moment where you block your heirloom lace piece.
I'll even show you how to shape a triangular or scalloped border during
this process. Enroll in Lace from the Inside Out, and follow
lace charts while you knit along with me! In case you're curious, I used
Fyberspates' Scrumptious Lace in Treacle Toffee for the shawl I made
for my class, and Spud & Chloe's Fine Yarn in Popcorn for the baby
blanket, both available on the Craftsy Shop.

I
studied apparel design and weaving in college, but it wasn't until I
had my daughter that I discovered knitting. One day, I was bored at a
play date with my daughter, and her friend's mother taught me to knit.
During subsequent play dates, I learned more and more. From there, I
mostly taught myself, and I jumped right into knitting some advanced
techniques, because there was no one telling me I couldn't.
I
became so smitten with knitting, I decided I needed to be around it all
the time. For a few years I worked as the Design Director for Schaefer
Yarn Company, which I absolutely loved. Today, I'm an independent
knitwear designer with over 100 designs. Knitting, and working lace
especially, helps me reach my happy place, where I can free my mind, yet
still be able to concentrate. For me, the best part of knitting is that
it's a craft that we can all share!

I
absolutely love to teach, and travel often to do just that. I'm
constantly learning from my students, just as they're learning from me.
Craftsy is a wonderful learning environment, especially for this class,
because there's a whole community of people working on the same project,
so encouragement is never far away!
Plus,
with Craftsy, you can ask questions and your classmates and I can
provide you with answers. Craftsy's 30-second repeat function makes it
super easy to see a technique again and again, without stopping to
rewind. And, if you want to bookmark any part of the class to come back
to at any time, you can use the video notes feature.
Craftsy
classes are professionally filmed in high definition, so the details of
every lesson are totally clear. If for any reason you enroll in a
Craftsy class and decide it's not for you, you can return it for a full
refund, no questions asked.
